Workshops
I am an experienced accordion tutor for all styles and abilities and also mixed instrument workshops.
I've held residencies with The English Folk Dance & Song Society, Halsway Manor (the Centre for English Traditional Arts), and Benslow Music. I also teach at Summer Schools such as Marlborough, Dartington and Halsway.
The two main areas I focus on are, bellow control and what to do with the left hand. I teach simple but effective accompaniments which avoid the repetitive oompah style.
Dont forget to look in my Sheet Music Library for Workshop resources.
What people say about the workshops...
What a fabulous day. I so enjoyed it. I didn’t think I would be able to participate at all, but I did. Thank you.
The clarity with which Paul spoke. How he explained the rhythm before each piece I found particularly helpful. I play everything with an ompompom and it is so hard to change.
Thanks for arranging such a great day. It really worked well for me. Thought the space was excellent and Paul was really patient and an excellent tutor.
The instructor. Couldn’t be improved on. Knowledgeable. Friendly. Approachable. Humorous. Audible. Knows how to teach.
Paul's guidance and thoughts on variations were just right and much more interesting than just learning tunes.
Paul covered the theme of playing together and being daring enough to dive in to play other stuff out of your normal comfort zone. I thought the changes to rhythms and dynamics was good too.
I liked the way Paul took the basic tune and teased out how it might be arranged - different modes/minor keys, adding embellishment, or taking notes out.
Paul was really good! Such a nice man. I loved the tunes!
Paul’s a really good teacher and all the clear planning and instructions from you plus the music beforehand really helped. Having been on a few other workshops it really helps to know what’s in store and what to bring it was so well organised.
I liked the way Paul paced the tunes...slowed right down to start and repeated a number of times until it became familiar. Then the fun of messing about with the tunes. Enjoyed the fact that we were free to treat the tune as we wished, with Paul's guidance and suggestions.
